Varroa resistance


Below is an article about how a beekeeper decided not to treat for Varroa in the hope that his bees would develop resistance to it.  It is encouraging although the method of breeding new bees from those with resistance is not for me. _Bleasdale 2014 We Can Breed Bees Resistant to Varroa



As I understand it this is the propolis gateway through which bees ‘de-bug’ on their way into (and out of) the hive.  Brushing past the propolis which has anti-microbial and fungal properties, helps them keep clean.
